Who will win the “SimulOscar 2017”?

Awards are granted to student projects on virtual test driving

Until the end of this year, students can submit their projects for the SimulOscar 2017. Submitted topics should center on an aspect of vehicle development by means of virtual development methods. The competition was initiated by the Karlsruhe-based company IPG Automotive to honor excellent academic projects in this field realized with CarMaker, TruckMaker or MotorcycleMaker. Next year, for the first time, the expert panel will also comprise external jurors to select the winning submissions.

Karlsruhe, December 9, 2016 – The SimulOscar is a competition that was first held in 2015 and is directed at students from German as well as international universities. The submissions are based on academic work that was carried out in the context of student projects (term papers, BA or MA theses, etc.). As a requirement, the submissions must be focused on a topic associated with virtual test driving on a scientific basis. The time frame for the projects is March 15 to December 31 for both individual participants as well as teams. The three best submissions will be awarded prizes of EUR 700, 500 and 300, respectively. At Open House 2017 on March 28 in Karlsruhe, the winners will be announced in a public award event. Open House is the meeting point for the virtual test driving industry for experts from the OEM and supplier industries as well as from universities and research institutes.

Meeting of the expert panel in January

In order to ensure an independent assessment, criteria for the evaluation of student projects will be the technical level, topicality and compliance with formal requirements. The jurors will select the award winners at the end of January. In 2017, Dr. Alexander Heintzel (Editor in Chief of ATZ/MTZ for Springer Nature publishing house), Dr.-Ing. Michael Frey, (research group leader at the Institute of Vehicle System Technology at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) as well as Dipl.-Ing. Steffen Schmidt (Managing Director of IPG Automotive GmbH) will form the expert panel.
